Lakota Nation Native American Tribes

Lakota Nation is formed by the Native American tribes. This tribe basically is formed of a conglomeration of seven tribes who are united by a common language Lakota that significantly is one of the three major dialects of the Sioux language. A recent furore of Lakota nation happened when they withdrew from treaties with U.S. government. This caused a major controversy in all spheres.

What is a major point to be noted is that Lakota Nation members withdrew the treaty after pointing out to numerous treaty violations on part of U.S. The members at the same time also complained about a loss of cultural identity resulting from forced assimilation programs that were often conducted by the United Nations.

Lakota Nation members are upholders of peace and they come from the Sioux Indian reservations of Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. In a recent petition they have alleged that they have suffered from cultural genocide as well as apartheid. Moving back to history we note that the initial meet of the Lakota tribe with the US people started with a confrontation as the Lakota refused to allow the explorers to continue upstream their expedition to the native lands; it was however later resolved and the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 was formed. The major fact about this treaty is that it allowed the native sovereignty over the Great Plains but at the same time allowed for the need for free passage along the Oregon Trail.

Lakota Nation had its first meet in treaties in 1974 at the first Indian Treaty Council meeting at Standing Rock Sioux Indian Country. Right now however there is much debate over these treaties that are going on and the Lakota Freedom Delegation is pointing out their grievances over the treaties. treaty councils of Lakota to build critical mass for this action. Lakota Nation consists of people who are Native Americans and a demographic study of them shows that their men Lakota men have a life expectancy of less than 44 years. Significantly this is the lowest of any country in the World including Haiti. It should also be kept in mind that the Lakota death rate is the highest in the United States as well as the infant mortality rate in this community is 300% more than the U.S. Average.
