Thaomas Tancredo US Politician

Thomas Gerard Tancredo is one of the well known US politicians as well as a prominent member of the Republican Party. Since 1999, this prominent politician has been successfully discharging his tenure as a member of the United States House of Representatives. He basically represents the 6th Congressional District of Colorado and is known primarily as a politician who has a strong stance against illegal immigration.

Thomas Gerard Tancredo was born in Denver, Colorado to Gerald Tancredo and Adeline Lombardi. Both his parents as well as his grandparents immigrated from Italy. He was born on December 20, 1945. Thaomas Tancredo graduated from the University of Northern Colorado. He studied political Science. In college, Tancredo was an active member of the college republicans and a conservative non-partisan organization called Young Americans for Freedom. As a Republican student activist he spoke in support of the Vietnam War. He became fit to serve in Vietnam after he graduated from the University of North Colorado in June 1969.

Thomas Tancredo , a member of the United States House of Representatives is a politician known for his string statements and has rose to national prominence after he was declared a candidate for the Presidential elections. Also known for his position against legal as well as illegal immigration he is till today remembered as one of the most sucessful politicians. What sets him apart from other members is the fact that he quit politics with ease and said this year that he would not seek re-election to his Congressional seat. At a startling revelation he has also recently in december 2007 announced that he would not be a part of the Presidential race.

Thomas Tancredo is well known for his significant legislations and that includes the Sudan Peace Act that had been passed the House of Representatives with a 359-8 vote. A significant fact to note is that the act was passed unanimously in the Senate without amendment seven days later, and was signed into law in 2002. another major act introduced by this great politician was the Mass Immigration Reduction Act imposed an indefinite moratorium on immigration to the United States.

Significant fact in Thomas Tancredos career was that he was appinted by Presidenmt Ronald Regan to be the regional representative in Denver for the Department of Education. The politician thus occupied the post from 1981 to 1982 and later in the year 1993 he went on to become the president of the Independence Institute as well as the leader in the Colorado term limits movement.
