Javier Torres Lopez Major League Baseball Catcher


Born on November 5, 1970 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Javier Torres López - popularly known as Javy López - is a Major League Baseball catcher who is currently a free agent. He is one of the most outstanding players of all times known for his talent in the games and is excellent sportsmanship.

Javier Torres Lopez debuted against Houston Astros in the year 1992 though he was an amateur with the Atlanta Braves since 1987. In the year 1996 Atlanta Braves won the National League Championship and Lopez played a major part in it. The League Championship featured Atlanta Braves - the Eastern Division champion playing St. Louis Cardinals - the Central Division champion, which the Braves won in 7 games. They became the 8th team in the history of baseball to win a best-of-7 postseason series in spite of being down 3-1.

Javier Torres López is one of the key players of the team Atlanta Braves. A professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia - the Atlanta Braves are member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League. The name Braves is derived from the term meaning a Native American warrior. Founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1871, the club moved to Milwaukee in 1953 and henceforth, came to be called the Milwaukee Braves. It was only in 1966 that the Braves moved to Georgia.The Braves earned the distinction of being the only MLB franchise that has won the World Series in 3 different home cities. The major highlight of the team's term in Atlanta is Hank Aaron's breaking of the career home run record in 1974.

2003 was Javier Torres López s best season, whereby he batted .328/.378/.687 and made 44 home runs, 29 doubles & 109 RBI in just 129 games. That season itself, he broke Todd Hundley's record for hitting maximum home runs in a season, and also got selected in the 2003 All-Star National League Team, besides wining a number of other awards. Before the 2004 season, López signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles. His performance was rather spectacular that season as he managed to bat .278 with 49 RBI. This he did while seeing a decline in his game time from 150 to 103 games.

On August 4, 2006 Javier Torres López made his debut with Boston Red Sox, but was subsequently released on September 8. On January 10, 2007, Lopez reportedly signed a 1-year, $750,000 agreement with the Colorado Rockies and was released on March 12, 2007 without having played in the season.
