El Zacaton Cenote is the deepest water filed sinkhole in the world. It is actually a vertical cave the width of which is about 100 meters or 328 feet. The depth of the cave is more than three hundred meters or one thousand feet. For this large depth, this sinkhole has been called an upside down Mount Everest. Its depth is such high that it can easily swallow the Chrysler building situated in New York. However, the true depth of this sinkhole is yet unknown as no one has ever reached the bottom of this sinkhole.

It became a faster transport route than the cart-pulled route between the Eastern Seaboard and the western interior. The Erie Canal caused a big influx in western New York.
