African Rivers Longest Rivers


There are more than 90 rivers in Africa. Stretching from the South to the North and from east to west these rivers have multiple tributaries and distributaries. The African Rivers are unique due to their vastness and purity. These rivers play a very important role in the lives of the people of Africa. To signify the continent as a whole we could say that it couldnt have done without rivers.

African rivers have a majority of the population depending on it. Being one of the main sources of fish and other sea creatures, it creates good business for the livelihood of the people. Due to the rivers enormity it makes travelling and transporting much easier for the natives and big shipping companies. The river Nile is the longest river in Africa stretching for 6671 kilometers almost covering the whole of Egypt. These rivers provide excellent opportunities for communication with miles of cables laid below them.

There are many African Rivers which stretch throughout more than one country. The Congo River moves though Dem. Rep. of Congo, Rep. of Congo, and Angola. The Niger River elongate through Guinea, Mali, Niger, Benin, Nigeria. The Zambezi River is considered the best for its scenic beauty stretching through the valleys of Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. Another river dwells in Dem. Rep. of Congo; Central African Republic named the Ubangi-Uele.

The Orange River through Lesotho, South Africa, and Namibia is one of the busiest rivers in Africa. Some of these African Rivers have eluding waterfalls and rocky paths. The Wabe Shebele in Ethiopia, Somalia has many tributaries. The Kasai River in Angola and the Dem. Rep. of Congo stretches for 1950 kilometers. The Cubango River with 1800km in length stretches through Angola, Namibia, and Botswana. The Jubba in Ethiopia to Somalia have the highest rate of fish harvest.

The African Rivers induces many to wonder about their history and geographical positioning. The examples of The Limpopo River in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique mare made by distributaries from the Indian and Atlantic Ocean. A lot of slave labor has taken place in the Black Volta River in Burkina Faso, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire. The Lomami River moves through Dem. Rep. of Congo. The Senegal River stretches for 1440km between Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal.

The other comparatively smaller African Rivers are the Benue in Nigeria, The Chari, The Blue Nile in Ethiopia and Sudan, Ogooué in Gabon and the Rep. of Congo, Oum er Draa going around Morocco, The Sangha River near Gambia and stretched through Central African Republic, The Gambia Cunene is famous in Angola and Namibia, The Cuanza which is small in spite of being 1000km long is in Angola, The Kwango, Rovuma, and Sanaga are the other rivers.
