Pet Emergencies Animal Activist Backed

Pet emergencies are common in this festive season. Christmas is a family time and in most families pets form an integral part. However, in this festive season they are often neglected and tend to get sick; this usually causes a great distress to the pet owner.

For the owners of the pets, thus it is a must to keep their pets healthy and happy this festive season and to avoid pet emergencies. During this season most of the veterinarians get emergency distress calls and the calls commonly fall in three categories which are the inappropriate consumption of a decorative material, injuries caused from chewing electrical cords and excessive cake as well as chocolate consumption.

The most common among pet emergencies however is a situation when the pet eats something which is not edible and which they shouldnt have. These may include a plethora of things like ornaments; metallic decorations, ribbons, excessive chocolaty food among others. Ingesting any of these can cause a blockage in your digestive system that can cause tummy problems.

To avoid such pet emergencies thus it is a must that the owners should ensure that the ornaments should be best placed higher up on a tree and larger less intriguing ornaments at the bottom or within the reach of the pet. Electrical cords cause another kind of dangers in case of pet emergencies and so make sure that they are away so that the pets cannot have an access to them or chew them.

Ill health of pet leading to pet emergencies can also result if the pet consumes foods that it should not have like chocolate, coffee and tea all of which contain xanthine, which is toxic for animals. The most common cause for pet stomach upset is chocolate as in most cases the pets love it and tend to eat it; however studies have clearly shown that unsweetened baking chocolate and dark chocolate can cause major stomach upset in pets and hence should be kept out of the reach of the pets.

Pet emergencies can be caused if the pet consumes foods that are rich in gravy and grease as well as if the pet takes in alcohol as it can cause serious intoxication. Apart from food some seasonal plants — including holly, mistletoe, poinsettias and hibiscus plants should be kept well out of a pets reach. Jacksonvilleprogress
