Tropical Storm Barry Gulf Coast Depression


On the Peninsula's central or northern Gulf coast a number of tropical storms were predicted to cause landfall. It was near the state's Big Bend area, Bonita Beach on Floridas southeast coast from where they warned about it. According to the National Weather service they were expecting 13-17 tropical storms among which 7-10 were supposed to be hurricanes and the rest in some strong category.

The National Hurricane Center stated that the tropical storm Barry forming on the first of Atlantic hurricane season had caused landfall in Tampa Bay in the morning and had gone to the state of Jacksonville in the evening. This storm week after moving through Central Florida on Saturday had brought almost 7 inches (18 centimeters) of rain in some of the drought affected area.

The tropical storm Barry was expected to rain about 6 inches (15 centimeters) in some of the parts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. But some other regions could have had a rain of about 10 inches (25 centimeters).a meteorologist of the National Weather Service Kim Brabander had said Itll help a little bit but everyone is so far bellow rainfall that were still going to be under drought conditions.

Because of this tropical storm Barry At least 1,400 people of the coastal area were evacuated in the southern Chiapas state in Mexico. This is reported by the Radio Formula. But it was a very surprising fact that from the part of the civil protection department of the state not even a single phone call was made to The Associated Press. Even also in the Guatemalan border town of Ocos the storm had affected a lot and a number of about 100 people were also evacuated from there.

While this tropical storm Barry was confined only in the north of Mexican city, Tapachula it had a speed of about 35 mph (56 kilometers), but as it was heading towards the northeast its speed got reduced up to 7 mph (11 kilometers).more over it was said to loose its gust gradually with the time.

Tropical storm Barry was the second named storm of the season. The Atlantic Hurricane season of 2007 was officially started on June 1. Unlike other storms this one acted as a blessing for the drought affected people. This is a blessing we needed this rain really bad, said Bob Burning an employee at MacRae's Bait Shop in Homosassa.

In this storm season the highest rainfall totals because of the tropical storm Barry were almost 100-150 millimeters (2-3 inches). It happened mainly between May 31 and June 4 2007. Heavy rain fall occurred in south-central Florida and east-central Georgia. And the areas having lesser rain were the eastern half of Georgia and North and South Carolina. Foxnews
