Bob Latta Distinguished Legislator Award Winner


Bob Latta has been a lifelong resident of northwest Ohio, United States. Latta completed his graduation from Bowling Green Senior High School, 1974, and received a B.A. degree from Bowling Green State University, in 1978. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law, in the year 1981. Bob Latta is married to the former Marcia Sloan of Williams County and they live together in Bowling Green with their two daughters, Elizabeth, aged 15 and Maria aged 14.

In 1999 Wood County 4-H recognized Bob Latta for his outstanding service to 4-H. The Bowling Green Community Foundation also honored him for his pro bono legal work in their founding year itself. He won election to the Ohio House of Representatives in November 2000, and is currently serving his fourth term. He proudly represents the people of the 6th House District, which comprises of Wood County. Prior to his election in the House, Latta was elected to the Senate in November 1996 and represented the 2nd Senate District.

During his tenure in the Senate he chaired the Judiciary Committee passing key legislation making Ohios streets safer. During the 125th, 126th and 127th General Assemblies, Bob Latta served as Chair of the Criminal Justice committee and has also served as a member of Alternative Energy, Civil and Commercial Law, Ways and Means, Judiciary and Public Utilities Committees, the Criminal Sentencing Commission and the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee. Latta sponsored the Bald Eagle license plate in the 122nd General Assembly and used it for eagle preservation in Ohio.

Bob Latta was honored as Legislator of the Year for 2000 by the Ohio Farmers Union for his efforts towards the elimination of the Ohio estate tax in the Ohio Senate. As enacted, the death tax bill, Senate Bill 108, increases the exemption for estates in Ohio, which eliminated 78% of the death tax filers. He was honored by the United Conservatives of Ohio for his outstanding for sound fiscal management during his tenure in the Senate.

In March 2007, Bob Latta was presented the Distinguished Legislator Award from the Ohio Economic Development Association recognizing his outstanding leadership in support of policies and programs furthering the economic development of Ohio. In 2004, he received the Cooperator Award from Ohios Soil and Water Conservation Districts. He was also presented with the Ohio Association of Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Boards Legislator Appreciation Award.

All through his life Bob Latta has been a strong advocate for community involvement. He is a member of the Bowling Green Noon Kiwanis and has served as its President, Director and Trustee. He was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award in 1999. He was a founding Trustee for the Wood County Arthritis Foundation. Latta is also a member of several other associations which reflect his multi-faceted talent and professional aptitude. Lattaforcongress
