Under The Tuscan Sun Movie Based On Frances Mayes Book

Under the Tuscan Sun is a movie based on the book of the same name by Frances Mayes. This autobiographical film directed by Audrey Wells stars Diane Lane and other stars include Sandra Oh and Lindsay Duncan.

Under the Tuscan Sun starts off with the display of the life of a San Francisco writer, Frances Mayes which seems to be ideal on the outside. But it takes a sudden turn. She meets another writer at the party she is hosting to learn that she is being betrayed by her husband. Incidentally, this writers book has been given a bad review by her. A divorce follows and suddenly Frances faces all the trouble one can face. She now faces a writers block and all seems to end for her

At this time, she is advised by her friend, Patti (Sandra Oh), a lesbian and expecting a child, to take a vacation. Patti fears that Frances might never recover. Finally, Patti succeeds in persuading her to take a vacation to Italy, to Tuscany to be precise. It was a gay tour which Patti and her partner were to undertake but had to cancel on becoming pregnant. So she insists that Frances take the tour instead. After much thought Frances decides to leave her gloomy apartment and take a trip under the Tuscan sun.

Under the Tuscan Sun then takes off with Frances going on the tour. While in Tuscany, during a short stop art a small town, she notices a villa up for sale. She boards the tour bus with everyone but the bus stops soon to let a herd of sheep pass. This is important because she finds that the bus has stopped in front of the villa that was up for sale. She believes that it was an indication. She makes the bus stop there.

The plot of Under the Tuscan Sun then moves on with Frances going through some very interesting but unexpected events and ultimately becoming the owner of the villa. The Villa though dilapidated, marks the new beginning for Frances. Her life begins afresh with her neighbors and other various interesting characters who are a bit odd but gentlefolk. She gets her house repaired with the help of some Polish immigrants. As times go on she also gets on well with her Italian neighbors, the Polish immigrants, the person who sold her the house and a very interesting and weird, aging socialite, Katherine.

Frances then gets pregnant Patti to her home after she arrives at Tuscany on being left by her partner. Frances grows a romantic relationship with a person called Marcello but they part ways. She once again is about give up hope for a happy life when a young lover couple comes to her for help. Finally, her life comes to fulfillment when a wedding takes place at her villa and she also meets an American writer visiting Tuscany. Under the Tuscan Sun ends with a note of positivity for Frances.
