Tommy Morrison Heavyweight Boxer


Tommy Morrison was born on January 2, 1969 in Jay, Oklahoma. He is also known as Tommy David Morrison. By profession he is a former heavyweight boxer. He was also a former champion of the World Boxing Organization. He is Hollywood star John Waynes grandnephew. He had total of 51 fights out of which he won 47 and lost 3 games.

Of the time 1990s Tommy is considered as one of the hardest hitting heavyweights. Tommy Morrison is also known to have a weak chin. Both in victory and defeat his career has been full of spectacular knockouts due to this. On November 10, 1988 Tommy started his career as a boxer. The first game was held at the New York City with a first round knockout of William Muhammad.
He scored another first round knockout of a fellow journeyman three weeks later. Tommy Morrison had 19 victories, 15 of which was knockout in the year 1989. He defeated the former opponents of George Foreman those of which included Ken Lakusta and Steve Zouski as well as the opponents of Mike Tyson that includes Dan Maloney, Dave Jaco, Lorenzo Boyd and Lorenzo Canady.

In 1989 however Tommy Morrison biggest breakthrough came when Sylvester Stallone was one of the spectators at one of his bouts and realized that Morrison would be ideal for Rocky V. Morrison was cast as Tommy Gunn in a movie that Stallone proposed him to do. When in the month of December Rocky V was released Morrison gained mainstream popularity.

Tommy Morrison, who was already the recipient of much of television exposure in 1991, won four fights against opponents Tyson opponent James Quick Tillis, the caliber of former Larry Holmes world title challenger and Pinklon Thomas who is a former world champion. On October 18, 1991 Tommy was given an opportunity to face fellow undefeated fighter Ray Mercer who is the WBO title holder in a Pay per View card.

However Mercer who was considered to have one of the best and sturdiest chins of that era completely knocked out Tommy Morrison by the end of the fifth round. Morrison was almost unconscious by the fifth round as Mercer continued to punch him. In that era this knockout was considered to be one of the most brutal fights. However in 1992 Morrison had six wins after he made a comeback.
On June 27, 1992 the Hipp Fight was considered as one of the most exciting games of Morrisons career. In the year 1995 Tommy Morrison had to his credit three fights. After several years of his believe that he was given a false positive HIV exam in Las Vegas his return to prizefighting came. On June 9, 2007 he made his debut in mixed martial arts against 340 pound John Stover. Wikipedia
