The Sweetest Thing Roger Kumble Film


The Sweetest Thing is a 2002 movie, starring Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair, Christina Applegate, Thomas Jane, Frank Grillo and others. Directed by Roger Kumble, it is a romantic comedy. The story revolves around 3girls who are on a girls night out and the events that follow after that evening.

Christina Walters, played by Cameron Diaz and Courtney Rockcliff, played by Christina Applegate, in the movie The Sweetest Thing, takes their depressed roommate to a girls night out. Their friend Jane Burns played by Selma Blair is depressed due to some relationship problem. So, her friends decide to take her out one evening. There, Walters meet Peter Donahue played by Thomas Jane and is immediately attracted to him. Having avoided men for many years, Walters, suddenly finds her perfect match while enjoying with her friends one evening.

The plot of The Sweetest Thing then shows that Peter Donahue leaves town and on knowing this, Walters starts investigating for him with her friend Courtney in order to gather detailed information. Although they talk to each other on the very first night of their meeting, they forget to ask each others names. This makes Walters search for her perfect match and they set off on a road trip. In the quest to lighten the mood of their depressed roommate, Walters ends up finding her Mr. Right.

The story of The Sweetest Thing revolves around Walters quest for searching Peter Donahue, whom she considered her perfect match. The film has cameos by director James Mangold as Dr. Greg and the writer herself, Nancy Primental. Nancy itself the role of the vomit girl in the club scene showing Peters brother inviting Courtney to the hotel for the party.

Physical and crude gags have been mainly used in the film The Sweetest Thing, as its main source of humor. There are certain goofs in the movie as well. The label on Peters beer bottle repeatedly changes between shots, in the scene at the driving range. This movie was restored for the unrated versions of the U.S. video release.

The Sweetest Thing, written by Nancy Primental was released on 12th April, 2002. It was a romantic comedy that received 3 nominations. It was nominated for the Teen Choice Award for the category, Choice Actress, Comedy. Both Cameron Diaz and Selma Blair were nominated for this category. It also received the nomination for Choice Movie, comedy. It grossed $24,718,164. But the overseas box office gross was $43,978,606. Wikipedia
