Margaret Whitton is an American actress who has done commendable job in not only Hollywood movies but also in theater and television. She was born on November 30, 1950. Whittons film career mostly accounts for the work done between 1986 and 1993.

Margaret Whitton is mostly remembered because for her role in the movie Major League (1989) where she plays the role of a baseball team owner. She also delivered a good performance in the sequel to this movie, Major League II. She has made a memorable appearance in the movie The Secret of My Succe$s (1987) where she plays the role of Michael J. Foxs hard-as-nails aunt by marriage. Whitton appeared in Mel Gibsons The Man without a Face (1993) and she worked with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell in The Best of Times (1986).

Margaret Whitton started her career as a stage actress in New York. She did two off- Broadway acts in 1973, Baba Goya and Nourish the Beast. During this time she kept the pet name of Piggy Whitton. After that she also tried in some low- budget movies but they werent successful. Her appearance started making an impact when she resorted to her original name and made a Broadway debut in Steaming (1982).

After that, Margaret Whitton started getting more notice. She effectively portrayed the sexy, beautiful, hard edged, no compromise lady in movies like the prison drama Love Child (1982) and also in the football drama cum comedy The Best of Times (1986). Her break out role in The Secret of My Succe$s made her really popular. She literally stole the show out of Michael J. Fox in the whole movie. Her next venture was Major League (followed by a sequel), a flashy role and a solid performance. She played the role of an abhorrent widow cum baseball team owner named Rachel Phelps.

Margaret Whitton then appeared in Mel Gibsons directorial debut The Man Without a Face. The film had an emotional, heart jerking story. In this movie, she played the role of young Nick Stahls mother with great sensitivity. Whitton also went on appearing in some TV series, some of which didnt make any serious business. Her TV roles include that of a bickering wife opposite Dynasty's Christopher Cazenove in A Fine Romance (1989) and the soap-opera spoof Good & Evil (1991), in which she played against type as the good girl opposite the more wicked-minded Teri Garr.

In mini-movies, Margaret Whitton is best known for her role as the tough-as-nails attorney Leslie Abramson in Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills (1994) (TV). For the past decade Whitton has stepped down from mainstream Hollywood or TV dramas. She has steered herself back to stage acting and more recently she appeared on Broadway in And the Apple Doesn't Fall... (1995) and in the original, award-winning musical Marlene (1999), the story of legendary Marlene Dietrich that starred Sin Phillips.
