The Liar Of The White Worm Film Based On Bram Stoker Novel


Based on the novel by Bram Stoker, The Liar of the White Worm is a horror film released on 21st October, 1988. The film was written and directed by Ken Russell and. Stars brilliant actors such as Hugh Grant, Katherine Oxenberg and Amanda Donohoe. The films haunting music was given by Stanislas Byrewicz.

The film, The Liar of the White Worm opens with a Scottish archeologist, Angus Flint discovering an odd skull in the ruins of a convent, he is excavating. The skull appears to be a dinosaur but is found at the level of some 5th Century coins. The convent was built on a site of a Pagan temple constructed in the 5th Century.

In the film The Liar of the White Worm, lady Sylvia Marsh returns earlier to her mansion temple house which is nearer to the excavation site. In the village party, Angus Flint befriends Lord James DAmpton, who has recently inherited his familys lands which are located next to the temple house. Angus learns from him about the white worm, which was a huge dragon/snake killed by an ancestor of James.

The Liar of the White Worm film takes a twist when people of the town start disappearing and acting strangely. The skull gets stolen from Anguss room and a watch of a missing person is found in a cavern, which is believed to be the legendary home of the white worm. Angus and James make a startling discovery about an ancient cult, which worshipped the white worm as God. They also discover that the creature has somehow managed to survive but was trapped inside the cavern.

Later in the film The Liar of the White Worm, it is found that lady Sylvia had stolen the skull and spit hallucinogenic venom over a crucifix. She even kidnaps a town girl, Eve for offering sacrifice to the white worm. She hypnotizes Eve and takes her back to the temple house and reveals her true identity as an immortal priestess of Dionin. The film ends when James rescues Eve and kills Sylvia and the White Worm.

The Liar of the White Worm was nominated in the 1990, Saturn Award for Best Actress and Best Costume. It was also nominated for the Best Film category at the 1989, International Fantasy Film Award. It won the Best Special Effect Award in the 1989, Fanta Festival. Wikipedia
