Lecture Series On Science And Nature By PWSSC Community Education

The PWSSC Community Education series is organizing a lecture series on science and nature that is being held on every Tuesdays at the US Forest Service Conference Room at 7 pm. The series will see presenters from the Prince William Sound Science Center, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Service, other local agencies and organizations as well as scientists and researchers of other regions.

In this lecture series on science and nature the local Audubon chapter and the centre work sponsor the third weeks lecture every month. December 11 will see Steve Moffitt of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, will present a lecture on Developing a Web Portal on Herring Information for Prince William Sound while on December 18, David Loomis and Amy Lindsley will present a lecture on The Life of Antarctica's King George Island that will involve penguins, skuas and human inhabitants on the island.


On Novemeber 27, the lecture series on science and nature had organised the Hubble Space Telescope, which showcased photos and discoveries of the Hubble during the last 17 years. This was an immensely enchanting programme for science lovers who flocked the seminar room to take part in the series. Allen Marquette, Prince William Sound Science Center education programs coordinator, informs that he has some very interesting programs lined up for the next few months for the PWSSC community education series. He had recently organised a fieldtrip for the two marine biology classes of Cara Heitz at the high school, which will include an all-day cruise on the US Coast Guard cutter Sycamore of 23 high school students, five Science Center education staff and three researchers of the center. The cruise will see the participants do physical and biological oceanography experiments. Marquette has thanked Capt. Kevin P. Dunn and his crew who will be taking them for the cruise. The cruise is scheduled to begin on December 10.

Apart from lecture series on science and nature other educational programs that are scheduled to take place this winter include Does the bird flu have you in a fowl mood? which will discuss ecology and epidemiology of avian influenza. The history of the H5N1 flu strain will also be included in the program that promises to be an entertaining and engaging one for people who are keen to gain scientific knowledge. Thecordovatimes
