One Life To Live ABC Network Show

Premiered in the year 1968, One Life to Live is an American soap opera, which is telecast on ABC TV network. The soap opera showcases the lives of the citizens of the fictional town of Manview, PA. The show became the first to depict an interracial relationship and it was the first to depict drug addiction.

One Life to Live was originally on the families belonging to the different strata of life. There is one wealthy Lords family and the less-wealthy Jewish family called Siegels. There were also the middle-class family of Rileys and Woleks. The serial became the first soap opera of its kind. It presented a mixture of vast array of ethnic types, broad comic situations, strong male characters and a constant emphasis on social issues.

One Life to Live revolves around the character of Victoria Viki Lord. It has been portrayed by Erika Slezak since 1971. Erika has won six Emmy Awards for her role in the series. The character Viki has been portrayed as long-suffering human being, who has gone through several turmoils in life like love and loss, widowhood, rape, divorce, and breast cancer. The character has been plagued by dissociative identity disorders on and off for several decades. Her life is once saved in the series by transplanting her dying husbands heart into her.

The show One Life to Live acquired somewhat fair to medium ratings during its first decade of viewer ship. The show gained popularity and its ranking escalated during the 2nd decade of its showing, along with the other ABCs shows. The 1980s proved to be the most successful years for the show, when it reached the heights of its popularity and was placed among the top-4 shows throughout the decade.

The show One Life to Live however saw a decline in its popularity and viewer ship during the 1990s. The downhill trend of the show continued during this decade, which resulted in its hitting the rock bottom by the end of the decade. At present, the show has regained its past glory and is again ranked in top-4 category.

The One Life to Live show has proved very lucky and fruitful for its cast and crew as they have been nominated for numerous dozens of awards with most wins. The show won the Daytime Emmy Award for the following categories: Drama Series; 2002, Lead Actor in the years; 1979 and 1983, Lead Actress in the years; 1980, 81, 82, 84, 86, 1992, 94, 95, 96 and 2005, Supporting Actor in 1992, Supporting Actress in 1994 including Youngest Actor in the same year.
