Google My Location Map On Mobile Phone

Google My Location is a mapping system which lets the mobile user view his present location in the map on the mobile screen instead of the text displayed just by pressing the 0. The system is introduced by the internet search leader Google based in San Francisco. It has released the beta version for the U.S. mobile users free and is compatible with a limited number of mobile sets only. The new visual location-aware-service uses the mobile tower to track the location of the mobile holder.

The way it works is that it gets the cell ID which is unique for each service provider with whom the cell is registered. Then by tracking the towers as the co-ordinates on the map by looking up the database for location it shows the location of the mobile user. Though Google My Location was expected to gives an accuracy of 500-5000 meters, but people using the service says it is giving very accurate results even upto 1 km.

The accuracy of Google My Location is more in an area with dense towers. So it can be said that the urban users will definitely have very good results. Another important thing is that it is not triangulated that is fixed with a nearby tower. The feature My Location can be put off also if needed. Since it sends the information to the google server one may want it to be switched off if he does not want to disclose the confidential location.

Google My location presently comes with the maps of the U.S., UK, Europe and parts of Asia. Though once fully successful more regions will be covered. With the beta version the application is currently compatible with the handsets like BlackBerry, some new Motorola series handsets, some recent Sony Ericsson devices, Nokia Series 60 and majority of the windows mobile phones handsets.

The installation is very easy with the handsets which have the capability for the feature and the proper browser. It is not a substitute for a GPS but can be used very reliably if the accuracy required is not less than 50 m. Though this is just the beginning it can be expected to have a greater accuracy may be like the GPSs available in the market. Google My Location service is expecting to be released with its all features very soon.

It has the capability to advertise too on the screen regarding the point in nearby location. For instance say the user wants to know the nearest fast food center. He can just view it as indicated in the map on the mobile and as well as be guided by the route as on the map. This way google My Location is going to make the mobile a walking guide to the user.
