With Christmas round the corner, many of us might have already started our quest for Christmas trees. Already there must be farmers advertising about their Christmas tree farms, from which, one can easily buy a tree of his/her liking.

Christmas tree farms grow as evergreens. There are about six hundred species of evergreens. They have been associated with seasonal celebrations since ancient times. Any tree can be identified by observing its leaves and needles. On careful observation well find that, all though the needles might look the same, they are actually quite different. Other differentiating factors are in the shape of the cones, the color, and texture of the bark. The four most common Christmas tree farms species are Scots pine, White pine, Balsam fir and White spruce.

The growing of Christmas tree requires a lot of skill and attention. Firstly, grow the conifer seedlings in seedbeds or greenhouses. The seedlings take around two years to grow. When they are twenty to forty centimeters high and sufficiently strong, plant them in the Christmas tree farms. Your beloved Christmas tree will take 8 to 12 years to grow to its full size.

Christmas tree farms require your attention throughout the entire year. You have to protect your plants from weeds that tend to grow around them especially during spring and summer. Insects and diseases also invade your farms. So you have to save your plants. Sometimes you may need to prune a diseased plant. Not only that, pruning also helps you in giving your Christmas trees shapes that you desire. You can save your plants from rodents by mowing. To keep your Christmas trees healthy, you might need to use chemicals like herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and pesticides as a last resort.

Christmas tree farms are looked upon as precious assets, because they can be a source of huge income. The harvesting season is very busy and farmers invite people to see the harvests and buy from them. Some farms also have retail outlets. Christmas tree farmers meet regularly to educate and update themselves on maintaining the farms.

Christmas tree farms are also environmentally desired. Earlier Christmas trees could be found in abundance in the wilderness, but now rarely are they found there. Nowadays one has to go the farms or outlets to purchase his/her Christmas tree. Christmas tree farming provides employment to a large population of Canada and the United States. Christmastrees
