Etta James Lyricist And Singer


Etta James was born on 25th January 1938 in Waltham Chase, Southampton, is an an American blues, R&B, soul ,song writer as well as jazz singer. As a Blues and R&B singer she achieved biggest success in her life during the period between 1950s and 1960s.

Etta James is well known for her performance in the year 1961 ballad At Last, which was diversified as a timeless classic and also acted in many films and television commercial since its release. She is the daughter of Dorothy Hawkins, an African American lady who gave her birth at the age of 16 when she was not even married. She ascertain that Rudolph Minnesota Fats Wanderone was her father and to keep this as a secret her mother drew monetary support from him. At the age 5 ,she received her first vocal training from James Earle Hines, who was a director of the Echoes of Eden choir at St. Paul Baptist Church in Los Angeles.
In the year 1950 Etta James went to San Francisco and she joined the two girls to form her musical team. And when these girls were 14 , Johny Otis a band leader had took their audition in which they sang an answer to Hank Ballards Work With Me , Annie known as Roll With Me Henry and this gave her the oppurtunity to move to Los Angeles along with her team to record a song in 1954 under the Modern Records. They renamed the song as The Wallflower(Dance With Me Henry) which was released in the year 1955. her singing team was recognised as The Peaches.

In February 1955 her The Wallflower was listed as second position in the rhythm and blues charts. The royalty received was shared by Hank Ballard, Etta James and Johnny Otis, the enormous success of which caught the attention of R&B world as a result Etta James went out on a trip with Little Richard. In this trip she became a drug addict.
After the success of the song Etta James left her group The Peaches . but this is not the end of her carrer she continued to sing and release her albums and acquired much success.

Etta James gave another big blast which was the Good Rockin' Daddy. She flew with Johny GuitarWatson and Otis Redding during this period and was greatly impressed with Watsons style. Tell Mama was her another song in the year 1967 which came in to the R&B charts in the top ten hit. This song retrieved back her lost glory after four years. The death of Leonard Chess did not moved her and she continues with the chess label for quite sometime and played more rock based songs.Wikipedia
