1926 Novel comes under the category of Twentieth Century; the period completely overshadowed by the two World Wars- the after-effects of the first and the forebodings of the second. The General Strike of 1926 was a major manifestation of the post-War slump, which culminated in the depression and its problems of want and unemployment, which made the early thirties a period of great distress, particularly for the industrial areas.

The themes include post war disillusionment, adventure, romanticism, realism. The detective fictions emerged in the period. Some important works are- The Castle, The Sun Also Rises, Early Autumn, The Death Ship, The charwoman's Shadow, Soldier's Play, The Land of Mist and many others.
The 1926 Novel mirrors the perplexity and uncertainty of aim which sprang from the post-War breakdown of accepted spiritual values. D.H.Lawrence, a prolific writer wrote The Plumed Serpent, a work dealing with Mexican life stressing on the values the primitive as opposed to the civilized. J.B. The most famous writer of this year was Earnest Hemingway who published between the wars The Sun Also rises , the title of the novel is taken from Ecclesiastes 1:5: the sun also ariseth. The author chose the original title as Fiesta retained by UK and Spanish edition of the book. It tells a story of some emigrant Americans in Europe during the early part of the 20 th Century. The novels depicts the life and experiences of Jake Barnes; his changing desire amid the enigmas of life. This 1926 novel ends ambiguously.
William Faulkner's first novel Soldier's Play tells the story of a wounded aviator and his return to his native place after the end of the ghastly World War. The crude reality of war is externalized against the backdrop of a romantic plot. The Sound and Fury, an allusion to Macbeth's soliloquy by the same novelist shows the picture of depravity and doom. 1926 Novel The Charwoman's Shadow created new literary genre called 'fantasy'. Both historical and fairytale fantasy were infused in this Lord Dunsany novel.
1926 Novel The Death Ship was published in French. In 1934 it was published in English. The author B.Traven attacked the bureaucratic authority and inhuman labor practices in the book. Early Autumn by Louis Bromfield won the Pulitzer Prize for the novel in 1927. 1926 witnessed the growth of detective fiction. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote an interesting detective fiction The Land of mist strengthened by his belief in life after death.
1926 Novel The Castle is a philosophical novel by the eminent French philosopher Franz Kafka. A land surveyor named K comes to a strange village castle authority.
