McDonough A County in Illinois


McDonough is a county, which is situated in Illinois, USA. The county seat is Macomb, Illinois. The population of the county was 32,913 as per the census of the year 2000. The county has a total area of 1,528 esq , according to the U S Census Bureau wherein 2 esq , of it is water and the rest land. The county forms a perfect square as seen by the Mercator map projection, which is an unusual distinction of the county. The center of the county is Macomb, the county seat and the courthouse is almost precisely in the center of the county.

The adjacent countries of McDonough are Warren County in the north, Fulton County in the east, and Hancock County in the west, and Schuyler County in the south and Henderson County facing the northwest side of the county. The county has been named in honor of Thomas Macdonough who defeated the British fleet in the Battle of Lake Champlain in the war of 1812.
The county of McDonough is in the center of the Military Tract, land set aside as a reward for veterans of the war of 1812. In 1818, these veterans were initially granted the first land ownership in the county, although many of them sold their rights to the land to others. Bounty Land Register, a newspaper, which was first published in 1835, to advertise, lands granted to veterans, is one of the ancestors of todays Quincy Herald-Whig newspaper. The county courthouse was in 1872. In 1882 the Welling-Everly Horse Barn was constructed.
There were 32,913 people, 12,360 households, and 7,094 families residing in the McDonough County as per the census of the year 2000. The population density of the County was 22/sq.km. The racial makeup of the County was made up of 92.88% Whites, 3.46% Blacks or African Americans, 2.02% Asians, 0.14% Native Americans, 0.04% Pacific Islanders, 0.47% from other races and 1% from two or more races. 1.48% of the populations were Latino or Hispanic of any race.
Out of 12,360 households in McDonough County, 24.30% had children less than 18 years of age living with them, the married couples consisted 47.10% of the households and 42.60% were non-families. Individuals made up 31.80% of all households. 12.10% of the people were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years in McDonough County. For every 95.30 males there were 100 females. For a household the median income in the county was $32,141 and that for a family the median income was $43,385. Males had a median income of $ 29,326 versus $ 20,798 for females. The per capita income for the county was $ 15,890. About 19.80% of the population and 9.60% of the families were below the poverty line including 7.20% of that age 65 or over and 19.60% of those under age 18.Outfitters
