Sealed Air Building Packaging Brands

Founded in 1960, Sealed Air is a public limited company, engaged in manufacturing materials, systems and equipment. Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes are associated with the formation of the company. They started with manufacturing AirCap cellular cushioning. When the idea failed they used their invention to make protective packing material. This led to the emergence of one of their first brands i e. Bubble Wrap.

Sealed Air used the Barrier Bubble technology for this product which further led to forming a basis for many air cellular products. The Bubble Wrap brand products provide higher protection to a wide range of applications ranging from fragile items such as glass, porcelain to heavy-duty items such as small motors, and calibrated instrumentation.

Sealed Air provides packaging and performance solutions in the industrial, food and consumer markets. Its other brands include Cryovac, Instapak, Shanklin and Jiffy Mailer. Instapak came into being in 1976. It was the first commercially workable foam-in-place packaging system. Instapak also helped in controlling freight costs and directed issues like space savings, and efficient material handling. It provides packaging facilities to applications ranging from delicate instruments to heavy engines. The companys brand also aims at reducing packaging material needs to ensure minimization of damage during shipping and storage.

On March 31, 1998, Sealed Air merged with Cryovac. This led to the emergence of the Cryovac products which provided packaging solutions to consumer products and fresh foods. The use of vacuum packaging technology was initiated. After the acquisition of Cryovac, the company could aim at providing better services to their customers and enhance invention. Sealed Air later merged with the Jiffy Packaging Corp. in 1987 which led to the formation of the brand Jiffy. Jiffy Padded mailers, Jiffylite air cellular cushioned mailers, ShurTuff durable mailers and the Jiffy Rigi Bag mailers are few of the products that form part of this brand.

Sealed Air also acquired Korrvu in 1991, which broadened market applications and led to packaging playing a dual role of both protection and display. 1978 saw the acquisition of the companys French subsidiary Polyethylene foam. The product lines are suited best for delicate finishes such as furniture or highly polished metals. The companys thin polyethylene and specialty foam products offer steady packaging solutions worldwide.

Operating in more than 51 countries, Sealed Air has over 17000 employees, offering over hundred manufacturing facilities worldwide. The companys headquarters are located at Elmwood Park in New Jersey. The revenue of the company in 2006 amounted to a grand $4.3 billion. Sealed Air products aim to preserve their customer products for which they have established a distribution chain. Their products also provide a merchandising presence to enable retail display.

Sealed Air has also laid focus on research and development. The company continues to prioritize their customers and demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting their needs with its sophisticated approach. For over 40 years, the company has been relied on by their customers. Sealed Air is well positioned to produce new products, systems and services that will enthrall their customers. Sealedair
