Days have come when life stops without technology. Walk through metal detector is such a technology which an individual unconsciously passes through while entering any mart or theatre or railway stations or airport. A close observation of all purpose of uses say a walk through metal detector is security oriented.

Walk through metal detectors use electromagnetic induction for the detection of metals. Schools, governmental buildings, office buildings, airports and prisons this way ensures no one is bringing any weapon along. It has been long since metal detectors started detecting even before the majority people had realized. Many scientists and engineers of the 19th century used their prospering knowledge of electrical theory to devise a machine which would detect metal of any sort.
A metal detector basically consists of an oscillator. This oscillator produces an alternating current. The alternating current produces an alternating magnetic field through a coil. If a metal- electrically conductive comes close to the coil, eddy currents will be induced in the metal and it will produce an alternating magnetic field of its own.
The change in the magnetic field due to the metallic object can be detected if another coil acting as a magnetometer is used to measure the magnetic field. Graduating with the geophysical uses, ore detection, treasure hunting and many more the metal detectors of the present date has achieved a new name of walk through metal detectors.

The first walk through metal detectors was developed in the 1960s when metal detectors started being used for industrial applications. A Finnish company Outokumpu adapted mining metal detectors, still housed in large cylindrical pipe to screen the airline passengers walking through it in order to stop further aircraft hijackings which occurred immediately before the adaptation.
These systems continued to develop rapidly and systems branded as Metor Metal Detectors was introduced as a rectangular gantry commonly known as walk through metal detector now used almost in all official buildings and eminent premises for security. Days have passed and terrorist activities are increasing with the increasing developments. Led by Outokumpu, the recent days with increasing developments came up with other companies manufacturing more technically sound walk through metal detectors.
Detectors such as Godrej Metal Detectors, PTI Metal Detectors, Fortress Metal detectors and detectors in China are being manufactured for separate purposes. These modern models being fully computerized, microtip technology allowing user to set sensitivity, discriminate, track speed, threshold volume, notch filters hold these strongly for future use. Comparatively, detectors were lighter, deep seeking and with less battery power just a decade ago.

In the electronics press of 2004, Beat Balance (BB) and Coil Coupled Operation (CCO) invented by electronics writer and designer Thomas Scarborough was unveiled. Thus people with implanted devices should be aware of these walk through metal detector so as to avoid all security instances; despite, it should be notified that these detectors hardly makes a mistake.
