
Shirley Henderson was born on November 24, 1965 at Kincardine at Forth Fife in Scotland. She is a British actress who started her career as a singer in local clubs. After watching a singer on the Opportunity Knocks she decided to take up singing as her career. Opportunity Knocks was a talent search program on TV in 1956.
Hendersons big break came when she entered and secured the first position in a talent competition at the Butlins Holiday Camp. Thereafter she gradually got a job in to local music club gigs. Afterwards Shirley Henderson got her training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She got her first opportunity to perform in a role in the popular BBC series Hamish Macbeth.
At the National Theatre in London, Shirley Henderson acted in several productions. She also performed a significant role in Trainspotting playing Gail, where she performed as Spud's girlfriend. She also gave a remarkable performance in the Irish motion picture named Intermission.
In Intermission Shirley Henderson acted along side Colm Meaney and Cillian Murphy and both of them are Irish actors. Shirley has acted in several TV programmes and miniseries of Britain. Later she became a part of many big screen ventures. Shirley has appeared in an episode of Love & Monsters. It was one episode of long-running BBC science-fiction television series that was titled Doctor Who where Shirley acted as Ursula Blake.
The movie The Way We Live Now released in 2001, gave Henderson an opportunity to show her most outstanding performance as Marie Melmotte on television. There are other movies where Shirley Henderson has proved her mettle in acting talent. These two movies are Charles II: The Power and the Passion released in 2003 and Dirty Filthy Love released in 2004. In the first movie she performed as Catherine and in the second movie she is almost deified for her performance as Charlotte.
As Ursula, Shirley Henderson also appeared in another new version of Doctor Who. She particularly appeared in the episode named Love and Monsters in season two. While Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) was being filmed Henderson performed in it as a Hogwarts student and interestingly she was the oldest actress there. In several big budget ventures like the Bridget Jones movies and in a series of movies as Marie Antoinette, Shirley acted as French princess Sophie-Philippine.
Shirley Henderson has graced the celluloid screen with a number of performances such as A Cock and Bull Story (2006) and here she is known for her performance as Susannah. The film was released in the United States and Australia with the title Tristan Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story. She has worked in fictions like Shakespeare-Told: The Taming of the Shrew (2005), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) as Moaning Myrtle and Frozen (2004) and other notable films.
