Jill Hennessy Popular Canadian Actress


Jill Hennessy was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to John Hennessy and Maxine on November 25, 1968. She is a Canadian actress best known for her television roles in Law & Order and Crossing Jordan. Her parents divorced in 1982, so she was raised by her grandmother in Kitchener, Ontario.

She has a younger brother, John Hennessy, and an identical twin sister, Jacqueline, who is a magazine writer and TV host in Canada. Jill Hennessy loved playing the guitar, reading and baking and won several awards in school for her music. Being a multi-lingual, she is able to speak Italian, French, Spanish, and German. She graduated from Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, Ontario. She used to sing and play the guitar for money in the Toronto Subway.

At the age of 15, Jill Hennessy began to model. After initial success, she began to concentrate on acting. She got her first break in David Cronenberg's chiller, Dead Ringers (1988) where she and her sister played twin call girls. She was also short-listed for the role of Dana Scully in The X-Files.

In the following years, Jill Hennessy was frequently seen on TV in Friday the 13th: The Series and The Hitchhiker. In 1990, she appeared on Broadway in the musical, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story. A three-year stint on the television show, Law & Order (1993 - 1996), in which she was cast as assistant district attorney Claire Kincaid, gave her the much-needed exposure and popularity. Next she was cast in a supporting role in director Mary Harron's, I Shot Andy Warhol.

1997 was a memorable year for Jill Hennessy with roles in films like A Smile Like Yours and Most Wanted after which she got the lead role opposite Jon Bon Jovi in the drama, Row Your Boat (1998). In 1999, she starred as Lisa in Chutney Popcorn. In 2000, she wrote, produced and co-directed an independent comedy film, The Acting Class, which was about the trials and tribulations of a dysfunctional acting class.

In 2001, Jill Hennessy portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the film, Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The Women of Camelot. Later that year, she was cast in the lead role in the TV drama, Crossing Jordan, which was a huge success. In 2003, she made a small appearance in the movie, Abby Singer. Recently, she portrayed Tim Allen's wife in the movie, Wild Hogs (2007).

Jill Hennessy's warm personality wooed the media and she was voted by Cosmopolitan as one of the Fun and Fearless Females of 2002. The Minneapolis-based band, Mollycuddle, wrote a song, The Ballad of Jill Hennessy, in honor of the actress, which pleased her so much that she offered to perform with the band on rhythm guitar.

Jill Hennessy along with husband Paolo Mastropietro, opened Hennessy's Tavern in Northvale, NJ and established herself as a successful restaurateur. On June 9, 2007, she received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. Jill Hennessy
